A brief history of Simmlands

The company initially opened in 1974 as a branch of the old and prestigious Montreal firm of Lewis Apedaile & Hanson Inc. (1917). The goal of the company was to design and administer "Insurance Programs" for Affinity, Trade and Employee groups.

As early as 1978, the branch designed and introduced some of the first employer/employee "Group Home and Auto" insurance programs in the province of Ontario.

In 1986 The company was restructured by John Simmonds and Jim Hylands as a totally independent corporation in a joint venture with the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP) to continue to market commercial insurance programs and to assist OTIP in the launch of Teacher's Insurance in Ontario.

That project was completed by late 1989 and Simmlands was reformed as a program administrator specializing in Golf Industry insurance products.

In 2003 Simmlands merged with Jones Brown Inc. of Toronto as the GOLF DIVISION of Jones Brown's highly specialized corporate structure.

In addition to Simmlands' wholesale and retail brokerage operations in the Golf industry, Jones Brown Inc. offers specialty insurance protection in Motorsports, Fairs & Carnivals, Entertainment, Sports Associations, Financial Institutions, Thoroughbred Horses, Aviation, Events and Oil & Gas.
