The CPGA Group LTD program is a "Core Benefit". All members and apprentices under the age of 65 (except "Life" & "Retired") are automatically covered by the plan.

The CPGA plan is designed to "stack on" to any existing coverage that a member or apprentice may have in place. It is not intended to replace other coverage.

This outline of the major benefits is designed to give you a brief overview and a quick reference source. It does not include all the terms, conditions, and exclusions that apply. Any claims submitted will be subject to the terms and conditions of the actual insurance contract held by the CPGA.

"Who is covered?"

All members and apprentices of the CPGA in good standing under the age of 65 except for "Life" and "Retired" members.

"Do I have to pass a medical?"

No, not for the basic benefit.

"When does coverage start?"

Coverage is effective from January 1st, after completion of the play-ability test and submitting an application for membership which is accepted by the CPGA. you join the Association.

"What are the benefits?"

The basic benefit is a maximum of $1,000 per month commencing after 120 days of disability and payable during the period of total disability up to age 65. For total disabilities occurring prior to January 1, 1998, the maximum benefit period is 5 years.

Disability may result from an "Accident" or a "Sickness" and is defined as the inability to do your OWN occupation for the first two years (one year for TPD members) and ANY reasonable occupation thereafter.

The plan provides for rehabilitation/retraining assistance and partial disability payments after a period of total disability as part of an approved rehabilitation program.

"How is the benefit affected by other coverage?"

The monthly benefit will not be reduced by any Canada/Quebec Pension Plan payments. If you have other disability insurance, the benefits will be integrated so that your "post-disability" income does not exceed 85% of your "pre-disability" income.

"What if I already have a known medical (pre-existing) condition?

If your medical (pre-existing) condition has been treated by a physician or you have taken a prescribed drug three (3) months prior to the effective date of your coverage, then benefits are not payable for a related disability occurring within the first twelve (12) months of coverage.

"Can I get higher limits of coverage?"

Generally, yes. It is highly recommended that you obtain disability protection to cover at least two thirds of your total gross income. Contact your own agent or financial planner for additional coverage.
